Trigger Points

Have you ever wonder why or where the pain of a particular muscle of your body derived from, when it was not there last night when you went to bed. And wake up in the morning to find yourself unable to turn your neck to the side without having pain run down your shoulder.

Well it is the cause of ‘trigger point’, which is muscles that has been under stress for a while and have developed 'knots' to which are referred to as trigger points in the healthcare industry.

Trigger points are caused by stress to the muscles that is caused by numerous of different things, such as bad posture over the years, lifting incorrectly, trying to multitask, carrying heavy handbags or not warming up the muscle before a jog and the list goes on.

People who suffer from any kind of musculoskeletal pain like back pain, neck pain, shoulder pain, or headaches main culprit mostly likely to be trigger points causing it.

Doctor Janet Travell trigger point therapy 'queen' spent a lifetime studying and researching Myofascial Trigger Points until her passing at 95 years old, as she was highly regarded in her field as the world foremost expert and was the White House physician over two presidencies starting with John F. Kennedy. She published more than 40 papers between 1942 and 1990 and in 1983 the first volume of The Trigger Point Manual appeared, this followed by the second volume 1992.

Unfortunately Trigger Point will not show up on X-Ray, MRI or Ultra-sound, as this is the fact that many doctors know very little about Trigger Points and so many patients have to suffer from treatable muscular pain symptoms.

Untreated Trigger Point will result in persistent symptoms for many years to come and a reduce mobility of the muscles and tendons. Unless you have Trigger Point Therapy by a professional 'Remedial Therapist' to deactivate underling Trigger Points, most treatments like massage, physiotherapy, chiropractic, Acupuncture, Osteopathy and even Cortisone Injection will only give short term result or not at all.

I hope that I have given you a better insight to what 'Trigger Points' is, and so thank you for your time in reading this article.
